Chapter 17. Broadcast-Style Animation > Broadcast-Style Graphics

Broadcast-Style Graphics

News programs and entertainment television shows have one thing in common: broadcast-style graphics and animations. Such graphics and animations are bold, colorful, and downright cool to see. Creating graphics and animations for broadcast can be fun and lucrative. Major television markets have high budgets for animation packages, which consist of a main title and bumpers—short versions of the main title that are used to go in and out of commercial breaks. These packages also can include variations on the main title theme for weather segments and news segments for news television stations. Animation packages must represent the feeling and style the broadcaster is trying to convey. This could be serious and strong, classy and cute, or the best way—sharp! These treatment styles also work very well for corporate or industrial video. You can even use these methods to enhance wedding videos—the choice is yours.

Often, text and logo animation jobs are done in multiple passes and composited together in programs like Adobe’s After Effects, NewTek’s Aura, or more expensive systems like Discreet’s Flame. But you know as well as the rest of us that those other tools are not always available. This chapter will show you how you can create moving backgrounds, animated text, and 3D elements all in a single program—LightWave. Pay those bills!
