Appendix A. Motion Capture and LightWave

When you watch an animated television show or movie, the animated characters you see, more likely than not, have been put into motion using a process called motion capture.

Motion capture data can be used to drive the movements in the faces and bodies of humanlike characters, whimsical characters, and even animals. Although motion capture technology has become more affordable over the years, it’s still an expensive and tedious process for animators. This appendix briefly introduces you to the process and provides ways you can work with motion capture affordably.
