Chapter 16. Nonlinear Animation

You’ve heard the term. You know it’s a big deal. But what is it? Nonlinear animation in LightWave is the ability to blend animation motions in Layout. A common example is to take a scene of a character walking and then perform a transition to a running character. The benefit of nonlinear animation is that you don’t have to set up complex keyframing every time you animate. Instead, you can create a library of motions and use them later, just as you would a surface preset. Nonlinear animation is not just for character animation, or objects, for that matter. You can use this process on anything in your scene.
