Summary

Patch modeling is a great method for doing a smooth single skin mesh as was done with Pug. As you were working on him, it was pretty high resolution. That is because the Patch Tesselation Steps (otherwise known as View Steps) setting is set to 5. That means that every patch is subdivided five times. This is a little high for current games. You can lower the resolution as much as you need for your game, and as engines can handle more, raise the resolution to the detail level you want (see Figure 11.48).
