Summary

Many of the new rendering features introduced in 3ds max 4 grew out of the specific needs expressed by the broadcast and film industries. Features such as Render Elements lend themselves to workflows that include a compositing phase, which might not be as commonly practiced outside of broadcast and film. However, the benefits of these tools are by no means limited to artists in a particular market. Artists working in any industry, including architecture, design, and interactive fields, might find that they can achieve faster and more flexible results by adopting techniques such as compositing render elements. Other features that we have covered, including ActiveShade, Multi-Pass effect, and network rendering, can increase productivity for artists across the board in almost every type of work.
