Wire Parameter

This is one of the most powerful new tools introduced in 3ds max 4, and it can be beneficial to users working in all industries. Wire Parameter enables the user to wire, or connect, the value of any animateable parameter of any object to any other animateable parameter of any other object. This is commonly used in conjunction with the new Manipulator helper objects and the Add Custom Attribute feature to create custom animation controls, but the applications are unlimited. Both one-way and two-way connections are allowed, giving the user the ability to create complex connections between many parameters.

The Wire Parameter tools are accessed either by right-clicking an object and selecting Wire Parameter from the lower-right Quad menu (see Figure 3.22), or by selecting Wire Parameter from the Animation drop-down menu. A nested pop-up menu appears in the viewport, prompting the user to select from the available parameters for the object. Upon selecting a parameter, a dashed line appears (similar to using the Link tool). At this point the user should left-click the second object. A second pop-up menu appears, listing the available parameters for the second object. When the user selects this second parameter, the Wire Parameter dialog box opens.
