Building Backgrounds

Web backgrounds not only add panache to a site, but also can pull a design together. It's important to understand that all background graphics tile. In other words, whether you create a really small square or a long strip, browsers repeat the background graphic from the left to the right, from the top down, in a series of tiles until the entire available space is filled.

Using cascading style sheets (CSS) , Web developers can prevent their backgrounds from tiling for browsers that support the technology. However, when you fix the background, the foreground scrolls. This effect can be difficult on the eye, and I don't recommend it.
