Tools Review

Let's go do a brief review of the rigging tools you've learned so far.

  • BONES The objects that make up the skeletal structure.

  • TRANSFORM Move, rotate, or scale.

  • PIVOT POINT XYZ axes that set the origin point and direction for transforms.

  • LINKING Connecting one object to another as parent and child.

  • IK CHAIN A special control for bone structures that allows transforming the child object to affect the parent object.

  • CUSTOM ATTRIBUTE A custom-made parameter that you can add to any object.

  • CONTROL OBJECT A shape or other object that controls part of a rig.

  • TRACK An animatable parameter.

  • REACTIONS Connections between tracks, where the master controls the slaves.

  • WIRING Connecting two tracks in the scene so changing one changes the other.

  • CONTROLLER A method of specifying how a particular transform will occur. Different controllers make different parameters available for animation. Controllers are also called animation controllers or constraints.

  • LIST CONTROLLER A special type of controller that lets you apply two or more controllers to one transform. The first controller holds the current transform information at the time the list controller is assigned, while later controllers can be used to animate the object.

  • FREEZE ROTATION A method of “resetting” the rotation up to the current point so all rotation from this point forward will rotate from the same initial orientation.
