Chapter 2. Modeling the Head > Creating the Hair

Creating the Hair

You can create low-poly hair in a number of ways. This particular method uses a sphere, with extruded polygons representing tendrils or wisps of hair on the forehead.

TUTORIAL M27: Creating the Hair

Create the Hair Object
1.
In the Top viewport, create a sphere about the size of the character's head. Set Segments to 16 and Hemisphere to 0.53.

2.
Move and rotate the sphere so it sits right on the character's head like a skull cap. Scale the sphere as necessary to make it closely fit the character's head.

3.
Convert the sphere to an Editable Poly.

4.
Access the Polygon sub-object level.

5.
Select all the polygons that make up the rounded portion of the sphere.

6.
Click the Bevel Settings button. Choose Local Normals as the Bevel Type. Set Height to about 8 to make a helmet shape around the head, and click OK to exit the dialog.
