In This Chapter

In the last chapter, you learned to change the basic color of the material in both the Diffuse and Ambient slots. In this chapter, you'll learn to apply maps, or patterns, to various material mapping slots. This is an important skill, as most of the materials you'll create in 3ds max 7 for production will contain patterns.

You can apply maps to determine the color of a material, or you can place maps in other slots, such as the Bump slot or the Opacity slot, to simulate geometry or transparency in materials.
