Chapter 14. Mapping Coordinates: Getting... > Adjusting Map Sizes Using the UVW Ma...

Adjusting Map Sizes Using the UVW Map Modifier

When a UVW Map modifier is applied to an object, the gizmo automatically adjusts to fit the bounding box of the object with what is known as Planar mapping coordinates. Planar mapping projects the map in both directions perpendicular to the gizmo and sizes one repetition of the map to fit inside the gizmo. The map pattern then repeats, or tiles, over the entire surface of the object. You'll adjust the width and height of the gizmo to resize the map to your specifications.

In the first exercise, you'll create the map for the diffuse color of the material and then drag and drop a copy of the map into the Bump slot and adjust the colors of the new map to black and white for minimum and maximum bump amounts.
