In This Chapter

This chapter unlocks the secrets of lofting, one of the most powerful modeling tools in max 7. Lofting is frequently underutilized because, for the uninitiated, the tool often seems to behave strangely. Because lofting is unlike any other creation method in 3ds max 7, you must be familiar with a few simple lofting concepts before the tool will make sense.

Take the time to carefully read through the lofting concepts presented here and in Chapter 2, Fundamental Concepts, before moving on to the exercises at the end of this chapter. Familiarity with lofting terminology and control features will help you perform complex modeling using simple shapes. For the exercises, you'll apply your knowledge of lofting to create an airplane wing that you'll use in Chapter 7, The Editable Poly: Box Modeling.
