Painting with Light

New users to 3ds max 7 have often presumed that if a real-world situation has lights in certain positions—for example, the sun or a light bulb in a lamp—then that is where the lights should be placed in the 3ds max 7 scene.

You have to approach the challenge more like a photographer or even a painter. A photographer doesn't walk into a room with a camera, turn the lights on, snap the picture, and send it to the client. More than likely, the photographer will spend a fair amount of setup time to place spot and flood lights in interior scenes in positions that will highlight or minimize the importance of those areas to the viewer.
