In This Chapter

Special effects in 3ds max 7 could be considered almost any effect you might use in special situations to enhance the look of your rendered images. Some examples of special effects include Volume Light effects, which are similar to a shaft of sunlight in a dusty room or the glowing aura around a light fixture, and Motion Blur, in which fast-moving objects in a scene look like they have blurred trails behind them, which enhances the illusion of speed.

In this chapter, you'll use special effects to replace the smoke you created to trail behind the airplane in the last chapter with wispy steam or vapor. In another exercise, you'll create clouds that are 3D volumetric clouds rather than clouds that are applied as a map within a material.
