Lesson 1. Working with the Basic Interface > Selecting and Deselecting Objects

Selecting and Deselecting Objects

As you work with the Motion interface, it's important to know what you have selected at all times. Many of the Motion features change depending on what is selected. To select an object, you simply click it with the Select/Transform tool. To deselect that object, you click the empty space outside of the frame. Let's try deactivating the circle.

1.
Click the circle to select it.

2.
Press Cmd-– (hyphen) to zoom out one level.

3.
Click the empty space outside of your light blue Background object in the Canvas to deselect the circle.

To select the Shapes object without selecting the Circle object, you need to click an area of the Shapes object that doesn't include the circle.

4.
Click the the white square on the Shapes object to select Shapes object.

A bounding box appears around the entire Shapes object.

5.
Click the empty space outside the background to deselect the Shapes object.

6.
Press Shift-Z to again fit the project to the Canvas window.
