Lesson 6. Working with Particles > Analyzing a Particle Emitter on the Layers T...

Analyzing a Particle Emitter on the Layers Tab

Let's go back to the Layers tab and see what elements have been added to the project to create the Surprise Shimmer effect.

1.
Press Cmd-4 to open the Layers tab.

Notice that there are two new elements in the project: the Spark11 object and the Surprise Shimmer particle emitter.

The Spark11 object is the original object that was used as a mold for the particle emitter. Since it is used only as a mold, the object is turned off on the Layers tab.

Let's look inside the particle emitter.

2.
Click the disclosure triangle for the Surprise Shimmer emitter to view the particle cell.

The cell, named Blur 11 copy, represents all of the particles created by the emitter. In the factory analogy, the cell represents the replicas of the original object that are mass-produced by the emitter.

Now let's look inside the cell.

3.
Click the disclosure triangle for Blur 11 copy to view the contents.

Two behaviors are applied to the particle cell. Applying behaviors to a particle cell actually applies those behaviors to each individual particle.

The Random Motion behavior causes the individual sparks to move about randomly. The Gravity behavior restricts the motion of the individual sparks.
