What You've Learned

  • You can export three kinds of files from Motion: QuickTime movies, still images, and image sequences.

  • When you export a Motion project, all of the project's media, edits, behaviors, filters, particles, and animation is rendered as part of the export file or files. Unlike a RAM preview, in which frames are rendered into temporary memory, an exported file is a self-contained media file that can be opened in other applications and on other computers.

  • Exporting as a QuickTime movie is the only method of exporting that includes audio. Motion includes a variety of QuickTime presets, from broadcast quality to highly compressed Web-friendly formats.

  • Holding down the Command key and pressing Tab in Mac OS X allows you to toggle between opened applications, even if they are hidden.

  • To export a still frame, you first move the playhead to the frame that you want to export and then open the Export window (Cmd-E) and select Still Image from the Kind pop-up menu. You can export a variety of still-image formats, including Photoshop, TIFF, and JPEG.
