Chapter 13. Working with Text > Adding Filters to Text

Adding Filters to Text

Because text is an object, you can add filters just like you do with other objects in Motion. Drag the filter from the Library onto the text object or select it from the Add Filter icon in the Toolbar. Filters are discussed in Chapter 9.

✓ Tips

  • The effect of some filters, such as Tiling and Distortion, is restricted to the bounding box of the text. Other filters, such as Light Rays and Zoom Blur, are able to expand beyond the bounding box (Figures 13.64 and 13.65).

Figure 13.64. Some filters, such as the Distortion filter seen here, get clipped by the bounding box of the text object.

Figure 13.65. Other filters, such as Light Rays seen here, are able to expand beyond the text objects’ bounding box.

  • You can still edit text with filters applied. It may be easier to use the Text Editor at the bottom of the Format pane of the Text tab of the Inspector than to edit in the Canvas when filters are applied.

  • You can also apply masks to text objects. See Chapter 12 for information on working with masks.
