Animating Text

The variety and control with which you can animate text in Motion is nothing short of fantastic. We have already seen two simple examples above: creating a Type On effect and moving text along a path, both of which are accomplished by keyframing specific Text Layout parameters. And although you can certainly keyframe most of the Text tab and Properties tab parameters of text objects, you can use behaviors to animate many different parameters at once without setting a single keyframe.

You can animate a text object, just like any other object, with the Basic Motion, Simulation, and Parameter behaviors discussed in Chapter 6. However, Motion includes two categories of behaviors just for animating text: Text Animation and Text Sequence. The Text Animation category creates basic Crawls, Scrolls, Type Ons, and Tracking effects. Plus, it includes the very powerful Sequence behavior for creating custom animations. The Text Sequence category contains a large number of preset effects that use the Sequence behavior to animate Position, Format, and Style parameters across characters.
