Applying Image Masks

Image masks offer another alternative for creating transparency by using properties of one object to mask another. Image masks are very flexible because the object that is used as the source of the mask can be a graphic, a movie, a shape, text, or even a particle system. In addition, you can choose whether to base the mask on the alpha channel, the color channels, or the luma information of the source object. If the source object is animated, as with a video clip or a particle system, then the mask is also animated.

To apply an image mask, you first add it to the object to be masked, and then you tell it what object to use as the source for the mask.
