Chapter 11. Working with Particles

Chapter 11. Working with Particles

With particle systems you can create an incredible variety of animated effects—you can make realistic natural phenomena like smoke, fire, explosions, clouds, and water; pattern-based animations like schools of fish or flocks of birds; or abstract animated backgrounds. The real-time viewing capability of Motion combined with the large number and variety of preset particles systems makes working with these complex effects easy and immediately rewarding.

In some ways, particles are the culmination of everything that is Motion because you can incorporate so many of Motion’s features into a particle system. Behaviors, keyframes, blend modes, and filters can all be used to modify and enhance the animation and appearance of a particle system. You can even have particle systems interact with objects that are not part of the system by using simulation behaviors such as Attract, Repel, or Orbit Around.
