Chapter 8. Using the Library > Introducing the Library

Introducing the Library

The Library is very similar in both form and function to the File Browser (see Chapter 3). You use both to browse, preview, and select items to add to your project. But whereas the File Browser is used to find media assets you have stored on local or networked hard drives, the Library serves as the repository for elements that are built into or supplied with Motion. These elements include Behaviors, Filters, Particles, Generators, Gradients, and Fonts, which are certain types of effects that are applied to objects; Shapes, Particle Emitters, and Text Styles, which are objects with predefined attributes; and Content, which includes various graphic and movie files. You can easily reorganize the Library to suit your needs, and you can add your own customized effects.

The Library is located on the second tab in the Utility Window, tucked between the File Browser and the Inspector.
