Navigating the Timeline

As you work on your composition, you need to be able to quickly move to different parts of the Timeline. Maybe you want to work on a specific frame, or a specific time location. Or maybe you want to get to the first frame of a certain object or effect. Wherever you want to go, Motion offers you several ways to get there: you can use the Transport controls, the Ruler area, and keyboard shortcuts. You can also set the specific area you are working on as a play range, add markers to identify key points in time or on objects, and set the overall project duration.

Transport controls

Just above the Timeline, at the bottom of the Canvas, you’ll find the Transport controls (Figure 5.9). These allow you to play or pause your project, to move frame by frame, or to jump to the beginning or end of your project.
