Applying a Drop Shadow

Ah, the ubiquitous and always fashionable drop shadow, which is great for making text or other graphics elements stand out from the background (Figure 4.40). In Motion, you can control the color, distance, blur, opacity, and angle of a drop shadow applied to an object in the Properties tab. You can control a subset of these parameters with the Dashboard or directly in the Canvas.

To apply a drop shadow to an object:

1.
Select the object.

Do one of the following:

  • On the Properties tab, click the enable check box, then click the disclosure triangle to reveal the Drop Shadow properties. Adjust each parameter you desire (Figure 4.41).

  • In the Dashboard, click the enable check box. Then adjust the opacity and blur directly in the Dashboard.

  • In the Canvas, either select the Adjust Drop Shadow mode from the Toolbar or Control-click the object and select Drop Shadow from the drop-down list. You can then adjust the distance and angle of the drop shadow by clicking it and dragging or adjust the blur by clicking and dragging the control handles.
