Effects

Maya provides all sorts of premade particle effects to set objects on fire, emit smoke, produce lightning, even make a river flow through a valley. Typically these act as a starting point for something more complex, so you’ll need to adjust them to get the desired effect.

By using a premade effect from the Effects menu, you can take advantage of a particle system with additional attributes that directly affect the way the particles react, or render. These attributes are made up of premade expressions and connections. When you make fire using the Create Fire effect, for example, Maya automatically connects Turbulence, Gravity, and Drag fields to the particles, as well as a premade shader and special expressions to give you added control.
