Chapter 2. Navigating and Changing the I... > About Display Options and Smoothness

About Display Options and Smoothness

The display options allow you to change the way the objects are viewed within the pane. You can view your scene in wireframe, smooth-shaded, flat-shaded, bounding-box, or points mode. The display options can be changed according to the current scenario. Bounding box or points can be used to speed interaction when tumbling around a complex scene. Wireframe can be useful for component selection because you can see all the components of the object at once. Smooth shading and flat shading can give you a more complete view of the surface, making modeling a surface easier. Each of the display options is useful for specific situations, so switching between them can be beneficial to your workflow.

The display options also use hardware texturing and lighting. These options allow interactive texturing and lighting, giving you quick feedback while you are texturing and lighting your scene. Most of these settings have a keyboard number shortcut associated with them.
