Chapter 3. Viewport Navigation and Display > Changing Viewport Display

Changing Viewport Display

Objects may be displayed in different modes to suit the needs of the work at hand. Higher resolution display modes are good for applying materials because they provide more information about surface color and lighting. Lower resolution display modes are good for modeling and animation because they show structure and update faster on playback.

In 3ds max, you control the display of an object individually or for an entire viewport. In this section, we will find out how to change object display for entire viewports. For information on how to change the display of individual objects, see Chapter 4, Object Selection and Display.
