Free Form Deformation

Free form deformation (FFD) modifiers deform objects using a lattice of control points instead of a gizmo. The more control points in the lattice, the better you can articulate the deformation.

To freely deform an object:

1.
Select a Mesh object.

2.
Apply an FFD modifier.

The FFD rollout for that modifier appears (Figure 6.49).

A lattice of control points surrounds the object (Figure 6.50).

3.
Click Conform to Shape.

4.
In the stack display, access the sub-object components of the modifier by clicking the plus sign next to its name. Then select Control Points from the rollout (Figure 6.51).

5.
Select and transform the control points of the lattice .

Each control point deforms the part of the object that is closest to it (Figure 6.52).
