Creating Basic Materials

The default material in 3ds max 4 is the Standard material. But do not be misled by the name! Standard materials represent years of development that go back to the ear-liest DOS versions of 3ds max. Consequently, they have numerous controls and options for creating exquisitely beautiful and complex materials.

Standard materials start out with a solid, dull, and gray appearance. By setting basic parameters, you give them color, transparency, and brilliance (Figure 13.34).
