Restacking

Each new object you create in a LiveMotion composition is stacked above all the existing objects in the composition, regardless of its location on the x/y axes. That includes new objects created by any means, whether by drawing, duplication, placing from another application, pasting, making an alias, creating text, or placing as a shape from the Library palette.

The stacking scheme can be changed for any object or group, though. The Bring to Front command brings an object (or group) to the very front of the entire composition; Send to Back sends the object to the very back. The Bring Forward and Send Backward commands move an object one level at a time. If you restack an object in a group, it will remain in the group.

To restack objects:

1.
Choose a selection tool (V, A, or U) or the Transform tool (E), then click on the object or group whose stacking position you want to change (Fig. 1).

2.
Choose a command from the Object menu > Arrange submenu:

Bring to Front (Command-Shift-]/Ctrl-Shift-])(Fig. 2).

or

Bring Forward (Command-]/Ctrl-]).

or

Send Backward (Command-[/Ctrl-[).

or

Send to Back (Command-Shift-[/Ctrl-Shift-[).

▸ Windows only: You can also access the Arrange submenu by Right-clicking in the composition window.

▸ In addition to restacking whole objects, you can also restack individual layers within an object. To restack a layer, drag it upward or downward on the Object Layers palette. You'll read more about layers in the next chapter.
