Chapter 5. Layers & Styles > Creating layers

Creating layers

In LiveEmotion, each object automatically has one layer; up to 99 more layers can be added. The layers for an object, called "object layers," conform to the shape of, and belong only to, that object—not to the entire rectangular-shaped composition. The layers for a flower-shaped object, for example, will also be shaped like a flower. (Layers in Photoshop or Illustrator, by comparison, always match the dimensions of the entire rectangular canvas.)

Since each object layer in LiveMotion functions independently of the other object layers, a layer can be offset from the other layers and different attributes can be applied to it (e.g., color, texture, gradient, opacity, and distortion and 3D effects). Multiple layers can also be saved as a style. This is a tremendously flexible system, since you can apply attributes to different layers of an object and edit them independently.
