Chapter 11. Backgrounds > Creating backgrounds

Creating backgrounds

BACKGROUNDS COUNT. In fact, the background of a Web page occupies the largest land mass, and thus can have the largest impact. In Chapter 10, you learned how to apply textures to objects and backgrounds. In this chapter, we focus on other ways to fill up backgrounds, namely, singlecolor backgrounds, two-color backgrounds, backgrounds made using shapes, and background images. The Color palette is used to create solid-color backgrounds, whereas a tiling technique is used to produce two-color backgrounds.

When you choose a color (or colors) for a background, consider how that color will contrast with objects in the composition. Most compositions include text, for which readability is always a top priority. If your text and background colors are very close in hue or saturation, they will lack contrast between them and the text will be a strain to read.
