Java

Java is a programming language, not a multimedia authoring tool, and although it supports animation, doing animation with Java is not for the meek. Java tickers, scrolling text, and flashing bells and whistles are some of the popular uses of Java for animation on the Web. The advantage of Java is that it is platform-independent (assuming that a Java interpreter is available for the platform that you have in mind). In other words, one animation can run on many types of devices and browsers.

The barriers to artists creating Java animation are disappearing as programs emerge that let you export animations directly in Java format, with all the associated HTML code ready to go.
